More than 6 months into pandemic life and one thing I’m still adjusting to is the fact that things can change in an instant. Plans get cancelled, meetings need to be blown off to care for others, and family gatherings are significantly smaller than usual.
Forever a perfectionist, I wanted yesterday’s post to be better…I wanted it to be more engaging! But I got called up to remote learning duty for these cuties and suddenly the hour I had blocked off to perfect the post went out the window.
And while the writer/blogger/entrepreneur in me was disappointed in myself for not being enough (good enough/engaging enough/responsive enough/detailed enough/prepared enough…you name it, I definitely wasn’t enough of it), my auntie side couldn’t have been happier.
I’m not traveling, and that definitely hurts my wandering soul, but this pandemic has allowed me to get closer to my nieces, especially the oldest one, than I ever have before. I know that these days of her wanting to snuggle up to me as she plays a game on her ipad or asking me to put her to bed with her mom so we can all have girl talk are numbered, so I’m going to soak up every single moment of it.
It’s also been pretty incredible being able to have semi-grownup conversations with her. She’s so unbelievably smart, and while she thankfully doesn’t understand everything going on in the world just yet, she’s almost always willing to listen and learn.
To top it all off, she thinks it’s pretty cool that I have my own blog and Youtube channel…even though the Youtube channel is pathetic😂 While I of course wish she had the same desire to travel that I did at her age, I’ll take this connection we have over technology and pray that when the time comes to choose a career she’s able to do something she loves that is filled with creativity and location independence.
As if that all wasn’t enough, she also told me I should write a book…to which I said I already did! She told me she’s going to buy it and read it all the time. She’s definitely too young to read about the trauma her Auntie Jenn has gone through, but at least I know who my #1 fan is!
She asked me to take a picture of the three of us yesterday and put it on the blog, so here it is.
This one is for the little girl that first made me an auntie.
