The strangest thing happens to me when I travel…I all of a sudden become a pretty incredible adult! I feel like I may be in the minority with this…
Don’t get me wrong, all caution gets thrown to the wind when it comes to my diet and I often return home terribly deprived of vegetables. But there are other things that I feel like are clear signs of successful “adulting” that I definitely don’t do at home that I make it a point to do religiously when I am on the road.
I have no idea why this happens! I don’t know if it’s the fear of receiving medical treatment abroad and having to pay astronomical prices out of pocket or if increased freedom just equates to better adulting. If anyone knows, let me know.
Without further ado, the 9 ways I adult better while traveling:
- I never hit snooze when my alarm goes off, even if it’s hours before the sun comes up.
- I take my vitamins daily. I even have a daily pill container that I prep beforehand!
- Have a glass of water between every drink and every cup of coffee
- Get in a minimum of 10,000 steps a day (it’s normally closer to 25,000)
- Keep any valuables either locked in a safe or in a theft-proof bag
- Wear reef-safe sunscreen every day, and depending on what I’m doing I normally reapply every few hours.
- My screen time is practically non-existent
- I write the things from the day that I am most grateful for in my journal every single night
- I make new friends instead of living by my perpetual motto of “No new friends”
