Aside from having different themes every week, Mark and I also alternate who picks the theme and plans the overall date.
For our second date night at home, Mark chose a Greek theme, which obviously had to include the Olympics since we won’t actually be able to celebrate the real Summer Olympics this year.
I will say that this is one themed date night that mayyyy not be the easiest to adapt for kids since we decided to act like we were still in college for a day and play Beer Olympics.
Dress Code
Togas (must be made with sheets or blankets) and headdresses
Menu
Beverages
- We decided to get beer to represent the “countries” participating in the Olympics. To give ourselves options, there were three countries:
- Greece: Mythos
- USA: Bud Light (Because when you have a day of drinking ahead of you, you need something easy to drink.)
- Germany: Flensburger Pilsner
Appetizer
Feta & Greek Yogurt Pita Chips
Main Course
- Grilled lamb chops
- Sautéed spinach
- Greek-style roasted potatoes (I think these may have been the best roasted potatoes I’ve ever had and we’ve already made them three more times since our date night.)
Dessert
Loukoumades (Greek donuts with honey and walnuts)
Activities
- Beer Olympics
- Corn Hole
- Beer Pong
- Flip Cup
- Medal Ceremony (These were held in between each round, with a grand ceremony for the overall champ at the end. Yes, we played all of this with two people. Yes, it was awesome.)
Note: Medals and glowstick headbands are from the dollar store, but you can also find these on Amazon.
I am sad to say that I only earned the silver medal in the Olympics. But I came back with a hell of a win in beer pong that I will forever be proud of! It was looking like a sweep, Mark was about to win his fourth game in a row to get best of 7…when out of nowhere Zollo remembered how to play the game and came back to crush him!
It was truly a momentous occasion; catch the replay on ESPN.
