Hey everyone! How are you doing these days?
Anyone else losing their minds? No? Just me? Okay, cool.
Well, Mark and I have now been home for 48 days . We knew right from the beginning that this wasn’t just going to be a quick two week thing and that we had to quickly come up with creative ways to have date nights at home.
Being a traveler at heart, I came up with the idea of doing heavily themed date nights, preferably based on places all around the world.
Before we get into it, these ideas are not just for couples!
Have fun with your roommates!
Live by yourself? Then they sky is the limit!
Have little ones at home? Imagine how much fun you can have exposing them to another culture!
Key Components of a Successful At-Home Date Night
First, your whole menu must be themed! I’m talking three courses + drinks all based off of your theme. Don’t get me wrong, I know we’re not all Top Chefs in the kitchen, and that’s totally fine! You can always order take out from a local business to fit the bill!
If you are going to take your efforts to the kitchen, I highly recommend having a themed playlist going. It just adds to the overall experience and helps make cooking a new dish a little less stressful. My favorite thing to do is tell our Amazon Echo, “Alexa, play X Cooking Music”. She normally comes up with a pretty good playlist, but sometimes it’s a bit of trial and error.
Second, have a dress code. People who do not abide by the dress code, no matter how silly, are not allowed. Sorry.
Three, have activities planned! Learn a new game.
Learn a dance or something traditional to the place you’re “traveling to”.
Find first person roller coaster videos on Youtube to “ride”.
The possibilities are endless!
Optional: Photoshoot. For us, a photoshoot is non-negotiable and absolutely must happen every themed date night. Perks of being a blogger: my excuse is that I need to do the photoshoot “for work”. (Jokes…I do the photoshoot for blackmail at a later date. Mwahahahaha!)
Mark and I try to do these at least once a week, sometimes twice depending on how stir crazy we are. Below is a list of great at-home date night ideas, and as we complete them I will link to a post with all the details of what we did.
Fair warning: It’s quarantine. Airport rules apply, which means there are no rules. Makeup never goes on. Hair is rarely brushed. Ya girl is looking ROUGH. You have been warned.
