Update: Since this exhibit has since moved on from its home in New York, I’m sure you are looking for other fun things to do while in New York. If breweries and brunch are your thing, try checking out this post on some awesome Brooklyn spots.
This is the LAST WEEK to visit the Mickey: The True Original exhibit in New York City, so I figure this is as good a time as any to share a little bit about it.
For those that may not know, my fiancé and I are pretty big Disney fans. Believe it or not, Disney World is way more fun as an adult! So when I heard about this exhibit I knew I needed to take Mark for his birthday.
The exhibit opened in November 2018 as part of a year of activities Disney planned to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th “birthday”. It is an immersive and progressive exhibit featuring original Mickey sketches as well as contemporary art from some pretty major artists. It’s no secret that the Mouse has played an integral role in most of our lives, and it is no different for these artists that payed tribute to him.
The tickets are about $38 each and you must select an admission time at the time of the purchase. To be honest, I’m not sure how strict they are on this admission time. Mark and I got there about 20 minutes late because someone couldn’t understand the streets in New York…despite the fact that I had just explained it…and we were still let in with no problem.
When you first arrive, you are held in an area with a bunch of people, then let into the first room at your “entry time”. In the first room, you watch a video basically outlining how Mickey came to be the “true original”. This is the only video that you are actually forced to watch, but it is short and pretty awesome.
I don’t want to give too much away, but there are plenty of great Insta spots if that’s your thing. (I’m a blogger, so it kinda has to be my thing.) Expect some delicious treats and a couple game opportunities. I’ll leave it at that…
As I mentioned earlier, this exhibit is progressive. What that means is that you cannot move backwards. Take as much time as you need to really soak it all in, get all the pictures you want, read all the information, because once you leave that room you can’t go back.
If you’re a true Disney fan, I would definitely recommend stopping by the exhibit this week. It’s a ton of fun, and I think it was worth the $38. I’ve included some of my favorite pictures from the insta-licious exhibit below.

This is adorable! I’m a Disney fan too, and I would love the story of how Mickey came to be! Also just interacting with the different sketches!
