Copenhagen is known as being one of the most expensive cities in Europe. So, when I booked my trip there, I instantly began searching things like “How to do Copenhagen on a Budget” and “Cheap Eats in Copenhagen”. One consistent thing I found was that there was an abundance of kebab and falafel restaurants throughout the city and those were going to give you the best bang for your buck.
I was staying in an AirBnB in an area called Nørrebro, which is known as being a kind of up and coming hipstery area (it is also right down the street from the University of Copenhagen) so I figured there must be plenty of kebab places around me.

Much to my delight, I found that there was one a mere 3 minute walk from my AirBnB called Kebabistan. I spent about an hour reading every single review I could find, and multiple said that this place had the best kebab in all of Copenhagen!
Boy did I luck out! (Even more than I realized when it turned into my saving grace after a horrible first day and experience with IcelandAir.)
When I hear kebab/kebob/kabob, I imagine a skewer with bite size pieces of meat alternating with pieces of vegetables cut to the same size. So I’m sure you can imagine my surprise when I walked into Kebabistan and saw massive slabs of meat on a rotating spit. Am I crazy here? Is what I considered a kebab just an American thing? Someone help me out!
The menu was written completely in Danish, so this was my first use of, “What’s the best thing you have on the menu?”
What I ended up with was freshly shaved lamb in a pita pocket with tzatziki sauce and assorted vegetables. This thing BLEW. MY. MIND. The lamb was so well seasoned and not the slightest bit dry. The vegetables were crisp and the pita didn’t instantly rip apart like most pitas I have experienced.
For a mere $7, I got this incredibly filling sandwich type thing and a can of soda. I feel pretty confident when I say you will not find a better deal than that anywhere in Copenhagen (other than maybe at a 7/11). This place was so amazing that I went back two more times during my trip. #NoRegrets
This is an extremely biased opinion because I didn’t actually try any other kebab places, but I feel pretty confident in jumping on the bandwagon & saying that Kebabistan does indeed have the best kebabs in all of Copenhagen. Legit heaven in my mouth.
Omg. I’m drooling as I think about it…

Kebab also makes an incredible meal after a night out on the town, and there is no better place to go than Balderdash.
