I think this may be the first year that I’m truly shocked that the end of the year is already here, because not only is it the end of another year but it is the end of the decade!
This past decade has been filled with plenty of loss, but with great loss comes great growth. I have been to 21 states, 17 countries, on 3 cruises, and what seems like a million flights, including my first ever solo flights and trips. I have been to more funerals than I would have liked, lost plenty of friends, graduated college pretty unsure about what it is that I wanted to do with the rest of my life…but all of these experiences have led me right here to your screen, doing something I truly love: writing and encouraging people to explore their own backyards, however large they may consider their backyard to be. (In my case, I consider my backyard to be the world!)
Plenty of low quality photos from the beginning of this decade, but high quality memories!
(Also, in case you missed my announcement last week, I’m slowly attempting to enter the video content space so all views and subscriptions to my Youtube channel would be greatly appreciated!)
I’ve been pretty open in 2019 about my frustrations with Instagram and social media in general. But, rather than just saying “screw it”, I decided to search. I searched for the good in social media. I searched for the people who are out there spewing positivity and authenticity; the people being honest about their struggles, posting pictures of themselves falling off an otherwise picturesque hammock on a beach, and supporting their peers regardless of what they are currently hustling for.
And guess what?
It is out there! There are fantastic, beautiful, inspiring people out there ON THE INTERNET!
In 2020 I’m hoping to contribute more to that space and give you a bit more insight into my day-to-day; how I incorporate things I’ve experienced in my travels into my everyday life and what my everyday life actually looks like. Because guess what? I still work a 9-to-5 job in a grey-walled cubicle Monday-Thursday; it’s not all glamorous trips around the globe every single day. And that’s okay! The point of Vagarious Wanderer isn’t to make it seem like you should be traveling 24/7, it is to encourage you to travel when you can and to understand that “traveling” isn’t just getting on a plane.
I hope you all have an incredible 2020 and get out to explore more!
